Etowah River Pump Station
Bartow County, Georgia
The Etowah River Pump Station will pump water to the Richland Creek Reservoir, currently in construction. Piedmont Geotechnical Consultants (PGC) performed the initial and supplemental geotechnical investigations including slope stability evaluation and foundation recommendations. The pump station is comprised of a large wetwell structure, set into the Etowah River bank. The project site is located in a Karst geologic region. Construction is on-going and challenges include fluctuating river level from upstream power generation, highly irregular Karst subsurface conditions, active sinkhole formation occurring during the construction, construction of the wetwell within a sheet pile coffer cell +/- 25 feet below the surface of the river, and adapting designs and recommendations with varying subsurface conditions.
PGC engineers and technicians are providing geotechnical consultation, evaluating the pile installation, sinkhole remediation, and earth and concrete quality control and construction materials testing.
